Puppy Wellness Plans

Exam: Every new puppy will have an exam at their puppy visit to evaluate its overall health and look for congenital conditions such as heart murmurs, hernias, and malocclusions (over/underbite). Please isolate your new puppy from other pets until we have examined it for any contagious diseases.

Fecal Testing/Deworming: We recommend puppies have their feces checked for parasites (worms). Please bring a stool sample to your first puppy appointment. After obtaining your fecal results, we will go over a deworming program with you.

Vaccinations: All puppies need a series of vaccinations starting at 6-8 weeks old. Do not take your puppy to a dog park, boarding kennel, or daycare until it has received all of its vaccinations.

Heartworm Prevention: Every puppy should be on year-round heartworm prevention. A Heartworm/Lyme test will be performed during the first year based on when the puppy was born.

Spay/Neuter: Every puppy that is not to be used for breeding should be spayed or neutered at 5 to 6 months of age. This decreases the risk of reproductive cancer and disease later in life. It can also decrease aggressiveness, marking, and roaming.

Diet: All puppies should be on high-quality puppy food until one year of age. We recommend Hill's Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba, and Purina. If your puppy will be over 50 pounds as an adult, it should be on large breed puppy food. It is important to measure out food at each meal to maintain a healthy weight for your puppy.
